As part of our sailing season the
Lady of Avenel will have regular opportunities
to join us on passage trips as we move between
ports or to the next trip. This can be up to a week-long
and provide an exciting opportunity to get involved in running a tallship.

Passage Trips - General Information

This is a voyage to bring the ship from one port to another. Often over many hundreds of miles. Generally, we do not have much time and we will only stop if we need to pick up supplies or the weather is against us. So we will sail, or if we have to, motor 24 hours a day.

You will stand a watch with all that is required, steering, setting sails, and navigating. You will also get involved in running the ship, that is cooking, cleaning, and maybe some small maintenance tasks.

You don’t need to bring any prior experience we will teach and show you what you need to know.

Bring your log book if you are working towards a boating certificate.

What to bring:

  • Water and weather proof shoes – wellingtons are great

  • Weather or sailing jacket and trouser

  • Sailing gloves – work gloves are fine

  • Head torch – with red light for night

  • Towel

  • Sleeping bag

  • warm clothing including hat

  • sunglasses
